What a great question and one that most people have just one response: "because thats how movies are shot." Well my return is why? Why do they choose such an old framerate to shoot these modern digital masterpieces?
I recently stumbled over this interview with Stu Maschwitz who clearly and understandable defines this unusual relationship we all have with this certain frame rate.
Before you watch let me say this about these new TVs that are hitting the market everywhere. It seems that a popular new feature is this "Smooth 120 or 240 megahertz" refresh rate. In essence it takes films that are shot in 24fps and essential turns them into this ultra smooth crud that looks like it was shot with a consumer hanydcam. Anyways, Stu touches on this annoyance of mine as well in this little interview.
